Standards of Practice
Mars’ Ombudsman program is based on the Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics of the International Ombudsman Association (IOA):
Independent. The Ombudsman operates independently from all segments, business units and functions, and reports directly to the Office of the President. The Ombudsman has access to senior leaders to convey information about perceived issues and trends across the company.
Confidential. The Ombudsman holds all communications with those seeking assistance in strict confidence unless there appears to be an imminent risk of serious harm. To safeguard the identity of and communications with Associates, the Ombudsman does not maintain written records.
Informal. Conversations with the Ombudsman are voluntary, informal and “off the record.” The Ombudsman complements formal communication channels like P&O and Line Managers but does not replace them.
Neutral. As a impartial third party, the Ombudsman is available to help all Associates, regardless of segment, tenure or location. The Ombudsman does not take sides on any issue or advocate on the behalf of an individual or the company. Instead, the Ombudsman promotes fair and equitable processes and procedures.
